Stevie Nicks was born on  May 26, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. She is the daughter of Jess Nicks, a corporate executive, and Barbara Nicks, a homemaker. She also has a brother named Chris Nicks.

Her paternal grandfather Aaron Jess Nicks, Sr. was the greatest influence for her. He taught Stevie well-known selections and even handcrafted a guitar as a child.

Nicks joined Aaron by the age of 5 and started performing a gig with him at local gin mills. In 1963, the family settled in the suburbs of L.A. from Arizona, New Mexico. She there enrolled at Arcadia High School in Arcadia, California.
