He has sold over 350 million copies of his books, some of which have been adapted to films, TV Series, and comics too. He is one of the richest authors as of 2020, with a net worth of $400 million.

King has also received many awards for his work including Bram Stroker Award, World Fantasy Awards, and British Fantasy Society Awards.

His winter retreat in Florida is much more modern and luxurious spanning an area of 6,817 square foot consisting of 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a swimming pool and a tennis court that King later added in 2014. He purchased this house in April 2019 for a reported $8.9 million.

Stephen King was born on September 21st, 1947 in Portland, Maine under the name Stephen Edwin Pollock to parents Donald Edwin King and Nellie Ruth.

His father had left the family when King was ten years old, and so was raised with his siblings by his mother under great financial burden. He attended Lisbon High School and graduated from the University Of Maine with a BA degree in English.

King married Tabitha Spruce on 2nd January 1971. The couple has 3 children, sons Owen and Joseph and daughter, Naomi King. Both of his sons are authors and his daughter is a lesbian church minister. He has 4 grandchildren.

He also had a serious drinking problem during the 70s that lasted over a decade. So much so that he was drunk even during his mother’s funeral. Claiming in his memoir that he barely even remembers writing Cugo during that time.

Stephen King turned sober after the novel was published when his family confronted him with his addiction to a staged intervention.
