After Mysterio was released from WWE in February 2020, he joined AAA and was participating in a tag-team match teaming up with Extreme Tiger on March 20, 2015. Tiger and Rey fought against Perro Aguayo Jr and Manik.
At a certain point in the match, Rey dropkicked Aguayo and pinned Manik, who couldn’t beat the count and Mysterio/Tiger won the match. Still, all participants were unaware that Aguayo had died following the dropkick rather that just playacting or being knocked out.
Aguayo was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to help him, and doctors officially announced at 1:00 AM on March 21 that he had died.
