Then, Holt was an anchor as well as a reporter of WBBM TV for 14 long years (1986-2000). After that, in 2000, Weekend Today anchor moved to NBC News and served as MSNBC correspondent for a year. From 2003 to 2015, he co-anchored Weekend Today.

Lester was born Lester Don Holt Jr. on March 8, 1959, in San Francisco, California, the United States to parents, June Holt, and Lester Holt Sr. He has three older siblings; however, their names are yet not disclosed.

In 1977, Holt graduated from Cordova High School. After that, he enrolled at California State University but did not graduate.
During an interview in 2012, Lester said:
“My first on-air job was actually as a disc jockey at a Country and Western station. The only time I could land a full-time gig was if I was willing to report the news.”
The American journalist also stated that he kept his job on the radio station through his career.

Talking about his personal life, Lester Holt is married to real estate agent Carol Hagen. The couple exchanged wedding vows on May 8, 1982.
