Lee Majors was born on 23rd April 1939, in Wyandotte, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit to Carl Yeary and Alice Yeary. When he a toddler, his mother was killed in a motor accident, and his father died in a steel mill accident. He later raised by his uncle and aunt.

Majors attended Middlesboro High School and graduated from there in 1957. The gifted earned a football scholarship to Indiana University, before transferring to Eastern Kentucky State College (now called Eastern Kentucky University). There, he earned a degree in physical education in 1962.
