Jay Alan was born on June 10, 1956, in New York City, New York, U.S. He was born as the son of Natalie (née Wortman) and Stanley Sekulow, and grew up practicing Jewish culture.
He later converted to Messianic Judaism after encountering Jews for Jesus.
Talking about his education, he did his graduation from Lakeside High School, in Atlanta, after which he got his B.A. degree in 1977. Later in 1980, he earned a J.D. from Mercer University.
Similarly, in 2004, he received his Ph.D from Regent University, wherein he wrote on religious influence on Supreme Court Justices and their opinions.
