Jo-Issa Rae Diop was born on 12th January 1985 in Los Angeles, California, the United States of America to Dr. Abdoulaye Diop who is a pediatrician and neonatologist, and Delyna Diop who is a teacher. She holds an American nationality and has Afro-American ethnic descent.
She went and graduated from King Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science where she started acting. She then graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts in African and African-American Studies.
Moreover, she received her theater fellowship at The Public Theater in New York City.
Insecure star is currently engaged to her long-time boyfriend Louis Diame who is a Senegalese businessman. She also wore her engagement ring publicly on the cover of Essence magazine’s April 2019 issue.
