An American crime drama film Hustlers, featuring Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Lizzo, Lili Reinhart, and Keke Palmer has grossed over $73 million within its first week of release.
The movie made with the budget of $20.7 million has been sued by the real-life stripper Samantha Barbash who inspired Jennifer Lopez’s fictional character.
STX Entertainment received a legal notice claiming a ‘flagrant violation’ of Barbash rights from Bruno Gioffre, a senior lawyer appointed by Samantha on 23 September 2019.
Samantha demanded a share of money from the grossed amount for using Barbash’s like character, personality, and biography. She even threatened the producers of the film with million dollars lawsuit to give her an undisclosed sum of money.
As per a verified source, she, in an interview with TMZ, said that she was defamed by her portrayal in the movie. When asked about her payment for sharing her biography, she said
“I wasn’t giving up my TV and film rights… for peanuts, Lopez doesn’t work for free. Why would I?”
She further added that she was offered less than the price of a Hermes bag ($7 thousand to $10 thousand).
Who Is Samantha Barbash?
Samantha Barbash is an American author and former bar hostess. Barbash started her career in 1992 at the age of 19. She claimed that she was only a hostess and never a stripper.
Talking of her profession Barbash disclosed,
My job was to provide the fun parts, such as the girls and setting the vibe… I would arrange for the hottest girls to come to parties. These girls made top dollar and had to have perfect bodies with beautiful faces to match.
She further added,
Then came the ‘fluffers’. These were the lower tier of girls who would do the ‘dirty work.’ Sometimes their tasks would include an array of sexual activity… These parties always came with huge payouts for me and the girls.
As of now, Samantha Barbash goes by the name Samantha Foxxx and is ready for the release of a book Underscore.
