Early Life and Childhood
Fred MacMurray was born Frederick Martin MacMurray on August 30, 1908, in Kankakee, Illinois. The son of Maleta Martin and Frederick MacMurray, Fred moved with his family to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, when he was five.
In his parent’s home state, MacMurray attended Beaver Dam High School and received a full scholarship to study at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he pursued music.
Marriage and Personal Life
MacMurray was married twice in his life. His first marriage happened with Lillian Wehmhoener, with whom he was married for 17 years, almost to the day.
They tied the knot on June 20, 1936, and were married until Lillian’s death on June 22, 1953. While they did not have children of their own, they adopted two kids: a daughter Susan (born in 1942) and a son Robert (born in 1945).

MacMurray married for the second time, a year after his first wife’s death, in 1954. He tied the knot with the actress June Haver on June 28, 1954. The couple didn’t have children of their own either and adopted twin girls, Kathryn and Laurie (born in 1956).

Death
MacMurray had a history of illnesses exacerbated by his heavy smoking. He was diagnosed with throat cancer in the ’70s and again in 1987.
He also suffered a stroke during Christmas 1988, which left him partially paralyzed and affected his speech. He almost fully recovered, but it was revealed that he had leukemia.
After living with leukemia for a decade, MacMurray passed away from pneumonia on November 5, 1991, at his Santa Monica, California, home; he was 83 at the time.
MacMurray was interred at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
He was survived by his then-wife, June, and his four adopted children, but the former passed away on July 4, 2005. His wife was laid to rest beside him.
