Ellen Page was born Ellen Grace Philpotts-Page on February 21, 1987, in  Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is the daughter of Martha Philpotts and Dennis Page. Professionally her mother is a teacher and a graphic designer.

Regarding education, she went to Halifax Grammar School for her junior schooling and later on moved to Queen Elizabeth High School for her high school, where she studied for some time. Later on, she graduated from Shambhala School in 2005.

Afterward, she moved to Toronto, Ontario to study the Interact Program at Vaughan Road Academy.
