Coronavirus officially hit the NBA on 11 March 2020 following the news that Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert was tested positive for the pandemic.
The first rumors of the outbreak broke back on 31st December 2019, and the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic with SOS Alert on 11 March 2020.
As the virus is hitting the world hard, it has affected economically, disturbing the balance of markets, and the stock market.

At the time of their hiatus suspension, the NBA has completed around 80% of their regular games. According to Forbes, if NBA wipes out one-fifth of the season, the league would face the loss of $500 million from parking, tickets, suites, as well as concessions.
Moreover, if the sponsorship, packages, and TV rights deals are to count, the NBA is facing a massive loss of more than $1 billion.

And on Thursday 12 March 2020, following Wednesday’s match suspension, the NBA suspended their 2019 season or around 259 games.
Alone from the indefinite postponements, the Basketball Association suffered over $1 billion loss. If the playoff is also delayed or canceled, the loss can go high up to jaw-dropping $24 billion after adding all the deals.
Earlier this season, the NBA bore a huge loss after Chinese sponsors cut ties with them after Daryl Morey’s tweet in support of pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong. As per ESPN, the dispute cost them up to $200 million.

Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks said:
“I thought this is crazy. It can’t be true. It is like out of a movie. Unreal. It is not about basketball and money. This is exploding to the point where I think about the families. We are making sure we are doing this the right way.”
