Although he is a multimillionaire, he is heavily criticized for what people claim to be supporting misogynistic views and toxic masculinity that promotes sexual harassment on his website.

The love-hate aside, Barstool Sports is worth $450 million, and most people credit Portnoy for the revolutionary way in which he covered sports. Additionally, most people know him for his Twitter war with Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, who opposed his anti-union views.

Barstool Sports started as print media and would primarily publish content on diverse topics. At first, it was distributed in the Boston area but later expanded its coverage area.

Barstool Sports Is A Charitable Organization But Why Do Some People Still Hate It?  

Barstool has been actively charitable ever since its establishment in 2003, They raised $240,000 for the victims of the tragic Boston Marathon Bombings.

Similarly, the site also raised $150,000 to an officer who was killed while on duty. Portnoy himself donated $20,000 to Penn State’s annual IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, and he raised over $91,000 to help veterans with PTSD and mental health issues.

In spite of all this, Portnoy and Barstool are both heavily criticized for the content on their website. Still, no amount of criticism has stopped the company from becoming an international sports media giant.

Well, they say no publicity is bad publicity, and Barstool generated over $90 million in 2019. The company is valued at $450 million after Penn National bought 36% of the company in January 2020.
